Admissions & entry points

Secondary admissions and transfers

For first-year secondary entry, the school points families to Croatia’s e-Upisi process and the published 2026/27 competition. Applicants educated abroad need prior school records and proof of citizenship, with translation or certification where required. Entry to other secondary grades includes a review of previous study, an interview with parents and pupil, and an initial English assessment, with Croatian assessed if needed. At the time checked, the school says it is not enrolling new pupils into its third and fourth secondary grades (international grades 11 and 12). This is an admissions restriction, not evidence that the Diploma Programme is absent. The embedded interest form still refers to 2025/26, so families should confirm the current application route.

Teaching language and individual language support

The school confirms English as the teaching language across its IB programmes. Croatian is studied as a subject, with an acquisition pathway adapted to non-native speakers. An English placement assessment during admission informs an individual support plan. EAL can include small groups, individual sessions and classroom support, coordinated with subject teachers. MYP and DP timetables include supervised study periods for assignments and teacher guidance. Optional tutoring with IB teachers, online or on campus, carries an additional charge; ask the school to agree the support and costs for the intended programme.

Learning & qualifications

An IB pathway on the Opatija coast

Adria International School was founded in 2022 and offers the IB Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma programmes, alongside early-years provision. Teaching is in English, with a published age range of 3–19. Its location page places the school in Villa Warmeck at Stubište Miroslava Krleže 1 in Opatija.

The school describes classroom learning alongside science laboratories, arts and activities outside school. Its fee information includes meals and English-language support for up to two years, while one-to-one learning assistants are arranged separately. A minibus service connects Rijeka and Opatija through an external provider. Families should request an itemised quotation for their programme and confirm transport availability independently.
