Teaching language and language learning

Apply online with academic records, teacher references and any grade-specific test results. The application fee is EUR 250 and is non-refundable. An offer and a waiting-pool place are different

After an offer, families have one week to pay matriculation and four weeks to pay the capital levy to reserve the place. Both charges are non-refundable. A waiting-pool decision means the child meets the criteria but the grade is full. Waiting-pool status in one school year gives no priority in the next. Admission also depends on whether the school can meet the child’s support needs in the existing group.

Limited support and English entry levels

The FAQ says beginner English may be considered from PK3 through Grade 2 when places are available; fluent English is preferred. Learning support is limited. The school cannot offer places where extensive curriculum changes or constant one-to-one support are needed. Families should send relevant support records to admissions before applying. The school has no boarding facilities: students must live with a parent or legal guardian locally. The FAQ gives waiting-pool offers three business days for acceptance and matriculation payment, while the general application page gives one week after an offer. Confirm the deadline in the actual offer.

American education with an IB option

The American School of Barcelona is based in Esplugues de Llobregat, outside Barcelona’s central districts. This non-profit school follows an American curriculum from preschool through high school and includes International Baccalaureate options among its graduation routes. That combination is relevant to families comparing continuity with a US education against a later move into an IB programme.

Application and budget details

The 2026/2027 family and corporate tariffs differ. For Grades 9-12, annual tuition is EUR 27,062 at the family rate and EUR 32,534 at the corporate rate. The family-rate table in this profile is therefore not a quote for an employer-funded place. Annual return transport is EUR 2,035 from Barcelona, EUR 2,145 from Sant Cugat or EUR 2,365 from Sitges/Castelldefels. The school requires written notice of a changed stay by 1 June before the school year to qualify for a full tuition refund; later notice carries a three-month tuition penalty.

Check costs before booking a short stay

The 2026/27 policy says new students accepted for one semester on or before June 30 owe full-year tuition. Students accepted after June 30 pay proportional tuition. Matriculation and capital charges are non-refundable. For a family with three children enrolled at the same time, the third child receives a 10% tuition discount; each further child receives 20%. Capital-levy discounts have separate rules, including an Early Childhood exclusion for the third child. Ask the school for a written breakdown before budgeting.
