English language support and additional charges

Bede's Senior School assesses pupils on arrival to choose an appropriate English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme. Dedicated EAL teaching within regular English classes for Years 9-11 carries no additional charge. Pupils learning English as a second language across all year groups must also select the EAL option unless their assessed proficiency or an existing English qualification exempts them; this option has separate charges under the school fee schedule. Evening prep support, activities-time support and Saturday support sessions are included without an additional charge.

English assessment for overseas applicants

Overseas applicants are tested before a place is confirmed and interviewed in person or online. The Senior School EAL policy specifies a level comparable to IELTS 5.5 or IGCSE English Grade C for Year 12 A-level entry, IELTS 5.0 for the Pre-Sixth course and the Preliminary English Test (PET) for Year 10. Year 9 applicants take Bede's own EAL test. These are entry standards or equivalents; the school assesses each applicant and their intended programme.

Deposits, insurance and further charges

The security deposit is held until departure and credited without interest against the final invoice; it does not pay the first-term bill. The school retains any remaining credit until the following term for late-billed charges. Cancellation of an accepted place with less than one term’s notice can make a term’s fees, less the deposit held, immediately payable. Personal accident insurance is included in tuition. Examination and UCAS charges, chargeable activities or trips, replacement textbooks, medical or dental treatment and individually required support can be additional; the schedule does not provide a single fixed total for all of them. Day tuition and the separately listed boarding supplements should therefore be compared with the pupil’s intended programme and transport needs. No complete first-year budget is established here.
