Applications follow the City of Espoo’s English-language education process. Permanent entry places use the city’s entrance-assessment criteria; temporary places use prior English-medium study and do not require an entrance examination. Teaching is in English for Grades 1–9, following the Finnish curriculum. Grades 7–9 also follow IB MYP. The school lists learning support, special education teachers, a psychologist and school nurses. Applications for 2026–2027 follow the city’s English-language education process. Temporary places and moving to Espoo

Temporary places in Grades 1–9 have no separate application window or entrance examination. Applicants must document at least one school year of immediately preceding English-medium education; the city also specifies an exception for first-grade applicants studying in English at the time of application. A temporary place can be granted only once during basic education, for at most three school years including the starting year. The pupil normally starts within one week of the decision; school holidays are excepted. Families moving during the school year are considered after moving. A conditional decision for the following school year becomes effective only after the required move and address registration by the city’s deadline. Waiting lists expire at the end of August. Confirm available places with the principal.

Basic education costs and what is included

Afternoon activity fees and payment conditions

For 2026/27, the city charges the same monthly afternoon-activity fee from August to May and no fee in June. Invoices are issued after the activity month. A place can be cancelled within two weeks of the decision without a client fee; after that, termination takes effect after one full calendar month and normal fees apply during that notice period. Illness and other full-month absences have separate reduction rules. Income-based fee reduction or exemption requires an application and supporting information.

School meal, transport and optional activity costs

The school’s 2026/27 handbook confirms a free school lunch on each working day. Separately purchased snacks are paid for, and clubs run by outside providers may charge even though the school also offers free clubs. The handbook says that the city does not provide transport to Espoo International School because it is not pupils’ designated local school; families arrange their own travel. Afternoon care is a separate paid service for eligible pupils.
