Espoo: permanent and temporary places have different criteria
The city’s English-language route is intended for pupils living in Espoo and Kauniainen. The city’s published guidance describes entrance assessments for new applicants to Grades 1, 4 and 7. Pupils already studying in Grade 6 at Espoo International School can continue to Grade 7 without a separate application or entrance examination. Temporary places in Grades 1–9 follow the city’s prior English-language study criteria, without an entrance examination, for a maximum of three school years. Places remain subject to the published criteria and available capacity; this route is different from an automatic local-school place.

Helsinki: check the requirements for the child’s stage
ISH asks for school reports and other documents through its application process, with English translations where required. For Grades 9–12, the school assesses whether the applicant’s English is sufficient for high school through the application and interview; an additional English assessment may be required.
