Boarding school fees in Switzerland in 2026/27: what to budget for

Published 27 October 2026 · Updated 27 October 2026 · AI-assisted SchoolMatch Europe editorial · Sources and approach

Swiss boarding schools publish annual packages that combine tuition, accommodation and meals, usually in Swiss francs. The price depends on the year group, and several schools add compulsory annual charges, trips and large deposits on top of the headline package.

The examples below come from selected official 2026/27 fee schedules, mostly for the final school years. They are not a national average or a ranking. Use the Switzerland school directory to choose schools, then request a quote for your child’s entry year.

Published 2026/27 boarding fees

The nine selected 2026/27 boarding rows range from CHF 62,500 to CHF 168,000. They cover different ages, programmes and services; this is a range of examples, not the cheapest and most expensive Swiss schools or a market estimate. Amounts remain in CHF.

Official 2026/27 sources checked 27 October 2026: Aiglon, Beau Soleil, St. George’s, Brillantmont (boarding PDF and day PDF), TASIS, JFK, Ecole d’Humanité, Schaffhausen regulations and Chantemerle. Brillantmont’s general webpage now shows 2027/28; the linked PDFs establish the 2026/27 rows used here.

Check the year before comparing Le Rosey

The linked Le Rosey Juniors document is explicitly for 2027/28. Its day places apply only to certain Junior classes; it does not establish a day option for Cadets or Seniors. Le Rosey is excluded from the 2026/27 table. Request the correct year and stage-specific schedule rather than carrying a future-year amount into a current-year comparison.

Day place or boarding

Compare day and boarding only for matching year groups and routes. For example, St. George’s Years 12–13 are CHF 49,250 for day pupils and CHF 132,400 for full boarding, a difference of CHF 83,150. Chantemerle’s Cambridge route lists CHF 29,500 for day pupils and CHF 62,500 for seven-day boarding, a difference of CHF 33,000. Neither difference is a national estimate.

A day place may suit a family living nearby, but the saving on school fees does not include housing, meals, transport or parental relocation costs. Compare the arrangements your family could actually use. Our UK boarding fees guide keeps GBP amounts in their original annual or termly periods; it is not a currency-adjusted national comparison.

Joining charges and deposits

The first year costs noticeably more than the annual package. At Aiglon, joining charges include a CHF 3,000 non-refundable registration fee, a CHF 15,000 enrolment deposit, a CHF 4,000 capital investment fee and a CHF 2,000 alumni programmes fee. St. George’s lists a CHF 500 boarding application fee, a CHF 8,500 admission fee and a CHF 4,000 security deposit.

TASIS charges CHF 1,250 to apply, a one-time campus charge of CHF 5,000 from Grade 1 and a CHF 3,000 enrolment deposit. Beau Soleil asks for a CHF 15,000 deposit that reserves the place and covers unpaid supplementary expenses. Other published entry charges differ: Schaffhausen lists a CHF 600 enrolment fee and a CHF 3,500 capital building fund, Ecole d’Humanité a CHF 1,500 admission charge and Chantemerle a compulsory CHF 1,600 non-refundable payment for its Cambridge route, comprising admission, materials, uniform and a cultural package.

Separate deposits from tuition and check whether each payment is credited against fees or held as security. Ask when any remaining balance is returned, what can be deducted and what happens if a place is cancelled.

What a boarding package covers

Packages differ more than the headline numbers suggest. At Beau Soleil, the CHF 148,440 package for Grades 11–12 comes with other annual fees of CHF 26,460 and trips of CHF 8,490 in every grade except Grade 12. For Grade 11, the displayed components add to CHF 183,390 (CHF 148,440 + CHF 26,460 + CHF 8,490), before one-time charges and personal expenses. This is a derived budget subtotal, not a quoted all-inclusive fee; the school describes its webpage as guidance rather than a contractual offer.

St. George’s says its package includes meals and school-run clubs, while examinations, uniform, boarders’ insurance and pocket money are budgeted separately. At Ecole d’Humanité, boarders also pay programme, insurance and laundry charges, and optional learning or social support costs CHF 8,500 each. Brillantmont’s 2026/27 boarding PDF includes VAT, and its day fee includes lunch. John F. Kennedy International School notes that English and learning support can cost extra.

A short checklist for your school quote

  1. Ask for the boarding package for your child’s exact grade or year group, and for seven-day or five-day boarding if both exist.
  2. List every compulsory annual fee and trip charge that sits outside the package.
  3. Write down registration, admission, capital and deposit charges, and the refund terms for each deposit.
  4. Check what the package covers: meals, laundry, insurance, activities, travel to and from school.
  5. Ask about language or learning support and its price.
  6. Compare the total first-year cost across your shortlist, not just the annual package.

Questions parents ask

How much does a Swiss boarding school cost in 2026/27?

The nine selected 2026/27 rows run from CHF 62,500 for Chantemerle’s Cambridge seven-day package to CHF 168,000 for Aiglon Years 12–13. Other ages and routes can have different prices; these examples are not a national range.

Is a day place much cheaper than boarding in Switzerland?

The displayed day prices are lower than their matched boarding packages, but the difference depends on the year group and route. Day tuition alone does not cover the family’s accommodation or relocation costs. Request comparable itemised quotes.

What do Swiss boarding schools charge on top of the annual fee?

Registration and admission fees, capital charges and deposits are common. At Aiglon these joining charges total CHF 24,000, including a CHF 15,000 enrolment deposit. Some schools also add compulsory annual fees and trips, such as CHF 26,460 and CHF 8,490 at Beau Soleil.
